Textiles class 3.
For Friday’s class I had to use a sewing machine, something I had never done before as my HE class had consisted only of making food but I actually enjoyed it which I hadn’t expected to.
Once I was all set up I experimented with a few of the techniques that had been listed the first being machine couching. It was interesting to use, not only to attach material and objects but increasing the width and length but shortening it too to vary the weight of the stitch which I hadn’t before thought of as a way to show this before.
The second technique was free machine embroidery which I wasn’t a big fan of mainly because it was quite difficult to control or fill in an area at times and I’m not sure I would use the machine to fill in a large area.
The third technique was whipstitch which I really enjoyed, not much different from the previous technique but I felt I had greater control over this and I’m not sure why, maybe because I had filled in space in a different way by rotating round, only following a certain direction or I was getting used to using the machine. This is one of the techniques I am going to use further in this rotation as I love the way it blends the colour and the way I made the grids gave me something to think about to use in my final classes of this rotation.
